Do you feel uneasy about your career decisions? If so, you are not alone. I can help if you are struggling with one of the following questions:

  • Should I stay in my current job or career?
  • Is it worth it to invest in more education? If so, what type?
  • What values and skills should drive my career decisions?

I use a systematic process to help you get clear about your career. Knowing that you’re making the best possible decision will help you fully commit and take action without fear of regrets.

The Career Decision Process

In our first session we will determine your needs and goals, as well as where you are in your decision process. We'll  map out a series of steps to help you arrive at a solid decision. If you decide to stay in your current position and improve your situation, I can help you improve your job satisfaction and advance your career. If you decide to move in a new career direction, we usually start with an in-depth clarification of the criteria for your next career move, driven by several self-assessment exercises.

SELF ASSESSMENT

To clarify your next career move, I will administer one or more of the following:

  • A standardized assessment of your skills, including those with growth vs. burn-out potential, with the Motivated Skills Card Sort Matrix
  • An assessment of your career-relevant values with the Knowdell Career Values Card Sort task
  • A personality assessment (NEO-IPIP), based on the five factor model of personality with subscales
  • Self-assessments and exploration of your career capital, including additional skills or resources you may have
  • Self-assessments of additional values, interests, and goals
  • Risk analyses for particularly uncertain options

PLANNING NEXT STEPS STRATEGICALLY

Using the results of the assessments, we will distill a set of your most important criteria to determine which strategies are your winners. This has the added benefit of bringing to light even better career and education options you may not have considered. I may use tools, such as decision tables and trees, to help you interpret the information we gather. We may find that evaluating your options with weights and numerical ratings adds clarity to your decision.

Once you have decided on a strategy, I will help you plan the next steps to implement your decision.

It includes six one-on-one meetings (usually in person, or online if you prefer).
