An Updated List of Resources for Sustainability Jobs in Portland

There is no one local website that captures all of the postings for jobs in sustainability. We  suggest that you first check out many of the sites listed below and choose a few that have postings most relevant to your goals.  Those with an asterisk have job boards with postings. The others have networking events, blogs, LinkedIn groups or Twitter feeds where job openings are posted periodically. In addition to reviewing these  job sites, remember to periodically check the employer websites directly and set Indeed.com and LinkedIn to send you position announcements using key words such as sustainability, natural resources, or recycling.

The Association of Oregon Recyclers

Besides extensive and continuously updated job listings, this website includes detailed information concerning membership requirements and local sustainability initiatives. In terms of providing information about Greater Portland's evolving recycling laws, the AOR website is currently the most comprehensive resource available online.

City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability

This site is an essential resource for jobs, citizen advisory groups and sustainability classes. The website also includes comprehensive information on subjects such as local climate policy, zoning regulations and Portland's evolving waste management and recycling laws.

Craigslist

There are a significant number of postings for sustainability jobs under the creative and non-profit categories of the jobs menu. We encourage any prospective job-seeker to exercise discretion when using Craigslist, especially since the names and credentials of the companies and individuals posting jobs are often vague or are not listed at all.

Earthshare Oregon

This is a federation of nonprofit environmental organizations that promotes environmental education and charitable giving through workplace campaigns. There are no listings for paid jobs, but there is a link to information about volunteer opportunities.

Green Drinks (Portland/Westside Chapter)

This is a networking and advocacy group loosely focused on themes and issues of sustainability and environmental policy affecting the Greater Portland area. Each meeting features a keynote speaker. Past speakers have included Governor Kate Brown, and former Mayors Sam Adams and Charlie Hales.

This is a local online directory that includes job listings and volunteer opportunities in social justice and sustainability. This website also contains extensive resources dealing with professional training and certification in numerous fields related to sustainability, as well as links to sustainability-related degree programs at various universities.

International Living Future Institute

As an organization that strives to build . . .an ecologically-minded, restorative world for all people, ILFI offers a wide variety of certificates and accreditations in emerging fields such as energy-efficient construction and sustainable manufacturing.

Mac's List

This is an online jobs board focused exclusively on Portland and Seattle. Searches for "sustainability" and "environmental" bring up several current job listings. The website is easy to navigate and gives you the ability to choose between Portland and Seattle as you scan posted job listings.

Natural Resource/Environmental Education Job Listings

Portland Green Jobs Network

This site organizes its jobs listings by focus, with job listings in numerous fields such as water conservation, waste management, wildlife preservation and renewable energy.

Portland State University Advising & Career Services: Careers in Sustainability Website

This page contains a comprehensive directory of message boards and various online directories for jobs and careers in sustainability, with a strong, although not exclusively, local emphasis. There's also a helpful list of local non-profit organizations for those who might be looking for networking opportunities.

Sustainability Leads

Technically this jobs directory is national in scope, but it is continuously updated and there are several well-known companies from Portland and Seattle who regularly list jobs here.
