12 Hours - (rates vary based on experience)

You’re ready for a job shift. Something new, something better aligned with your current needs.

When you have explored job postings to advance your career, not enough really seems to fit.

There are four reasons you’re not able to find and compete for what you really want and deserve:

    • You’re not sure what job titles and keywords will lead you to the right postings.
    • You have gaps in skill requirements that prevent your from competing optimally.
    • You don’t understand how much industry experience you need to change industries.
    • You don’t have the network to be introduced to the hiring manager.

Here’s how we’ll spend our time (12 Hours):

In our sessions, we will determine the range of job titles that use your expertise. We will then analyze what you need to add to compete for what you really want. It may take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months for you to overcome your barriers to competing for the right job. Then, you can proceed to tailoring your resume and cover letter and interviewing effectively.

This professional package is customized to your needs, but always includes coaching in:

  • Review of skills, experiences, and preferences (1 hour)
  • Job title discovery and job listings search (1-2 hours)
  • Experience and skills gap analysis (1-2 hours)
  • Tailoring up to two resumes and cover letters to get interviews (6-8 hours)
  • Interviewing (2 hours)
  • Networking support, including LinkedIn guidance (1-2 hours)
  • Negotiating the compensation you deserve when you get an offer

What’s different about each job search package?

You have 3 or more months to network and build additional skills.

Job Titles and Keywords to Explore

The job titles and keywords that you have tried aren’t pulling up a full range of exciting positions that interest you. You need a professional partner more familiar with common job titles to help you expand your exploration.

Example:  M. spent ten years as a Claims Analyst in the automotive industry. However, 90% of Claims Analyst positions required medical/disability experience. We tapped some of our industry experts to learn that the job title “Operations Analyst” or “Vendor Management Analyst” were a better match to M.’s expertise.

Add Required Skills

If only you could talk to the manager, you could make the case for the relevance of your past experience and could convince them you’re a quick study. But, the path to the hiring manager is often through HR and your resume articulating an exact match to the level of listed technical skills in the position announcement.

When we do see an exciting job, we can help you analyze if your number and level of skills are a close enough match. Some of these skills can be acquired within a short time frame from the enormous range of online training programs. We can help you decide which training programs (from 2 hours to 2 months) and skill enhancements will be a good investment to land more interviews.

Example:  J. efficiently managed projects, but wasn’t using modern project management software in her current job. We helped her analyze position announcements to see that all the higher paying jobs required expertise with MS Project or Asana to manage projects. With our help, she selected Coursera’s Google Project Management Certificate and began using Asana on her current work projects. She can now compete for more desirable jobs.

Build Relevant Industry Knowledge and/or Experience

You may have a history of success in roles such as sales, operations management, or project management. You are convinced that these functional skills will cross over effectively to a range of industries, but these postings often require or strongly prefer industry expertise so you aren’t hearing back on those jobs. We can help you with two effective strategies:

  • Networking through LinkedIn:

Over 75% of positions are landed through networking which is particularly crucial when you are seeking a new kind of role or different industry.

Example:  C. was an Architect on the east coast before becoming a Swim Coach for more than a decade. When his family relocated to Portland, he wanted to resume his career in architecture, but lacked knowledge on current sustainable building practices. Through LinkedIn, C. engaged with Portland’s green building scene by joining relevant LinkedIn groups, following up with individuals after events, and identifying potential employers.

  • Strategic Volunteering:

Having relevant industry experience at the top of your resume can make all the difference in getting called for interviews. You can build industry experience through strategic volunteering or self designed internships.

Example:  Before staying home to raise children, S. worked in social services, but now seeks greater financial opportunity available in healthcare. All of the positions required healthcare experience. We helped her obtain a part-time unpaid internship at Providence Hospital where she could obtain industry experience and build recent references.

You Need a Network for Change

If you’re pivoting and cannot move through the HR screening process, you need someone to put in a good word to the manager. Mastering your competence with LinkedIn is essential for building your professional network. We will show you how to tap your own connections in addition to making every effort to introduce you to our contacts in a broad range of industries.

Example:  D.’s goal was to work for a creative agency. He loved athletics and had intermediate skills as a graphic designer and lighter project management skills from his experience ten years earlier when he was working in healthcare. He learned that Thesis Marketing Agency was rapidly expanding and often hired Project Managers with a creative background. We helped him integrate project management vocabulary in his LinkedIn Profile and network with our past clients working at Thesis. After an informational interview, the inside contact forwarded his resume to a Hiring Manager who was about to post the open position. D got the position before it was even posted!
